Greetings USBC Members, Partners, and Supporters,

On behalf of the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that Tina Sherman has been appointed to the role of Interim Executive Director of USBC, effective Wednesday, November 15. She resigned as Chair-Elect of the USBC Board and has temporarily stepped back from her position as Senior Campaign Director for Maternal Justice at MomsRising in order to assume this position.

Tina has dedicated her professional life to supporting and empowering birthing and lactating moms and families.

Tina previously served as a legislative aide in the United States Senate, worked at various child and women's advocacy organizations, and supported birthing families as a certified birth doula. Throughout her career, centering moms and dads and supporting them to make their own best choices for their families has always been her priority.

We sincerely appreciate Tina’s passion and commitment to the First Food field, the USBC, and our collective mission to drive collaborative efforts for policy and practices that create a landscape of breastfeeding support across the United States. Tina will serve as the Interim Executive Director (ED), supporting the board of directors and the programmatic efforts of the staff team while focusing much of her time as Interim ED on financial sustainability and organizational vitality.

As the USBC moves into the search phase, the Board of Directors and staff will work together to identify a pool of strong candidates for the permanent Executive Director. This leader will help to build the financial sustainability of the organization, engage the board in defining a new strategic plan, further strengthen systems to maximize the impact and capacity of the staff team, and continue to support the field in operationalizing our shared commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging. The board aims to make a permanent appointment by the second quarter of 2024, and will be in open communication while this process moves forward.

Meanwhile, please join me in welcoming Tina to her new role!
