The U.S. Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) is pleased to announce that the call for proposals for the 2022 National Breastfeeding Conference & Convening (NBCC) is now open!

The NBCC brings together a diverse set of clinical, community, advocacy, and research professionals who recognize the public health importance of breastfeeding as critical for reducing the burden of infant morbidity and mortality, childhood and adolescent overweight, obesity, and chronic disease, and maternal type 2 diabetes and maternal breast and ovarian cancers. The convening is designed to develop and strengthen the leadership capacity of the public health workforce, including representatives from direct service organizations, breastfeeding coalitions, hospitals and healthcare facilities, health departments, research institutions, and federal agencies to effectively protect, promote, and support breastfeeding at the national, state, local, and community levels.

For the safety of our team, presenters, and attendees, this event will be hosted online
from Tuesday, June 7, to Thursday, June 9, 2022.

Pathfinders: Honoring Lactation Wisdom and Nurturing Innovation

The theme, thoughtfully developed by the Conference Planning Committee, speaks to the fundamental importance of soliciting, respecting, and honoring the wisdom of our ancestors, elders, communities, and of all individuals, recognizing that listening to lived experiences can unlock lessons and solutions for a better tomorrow. It also recognizes and celebrates the innovators, the fresh thinkers, and those charting a fresh path into the future, in which every step of the way is valued, respected, and celebrated.

The conference learning arcs are:

  • Demanding Policy, Systems, and Environmental Change to Realize our Vision of Thriving Families and Communities
  • Partnering with Public Health to Fund Programming and Advance Lactation Equity
  • Decolonizing Lactation to Amplify Voices, Validate Experiences, Celebrate Stories, and Meet Needs of Historically Marginalized Populations
Please visit the 2022 conference website to learn more about each of these powerful learning arcs and the overall conference objectives.

The submission deadline is Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. PT.

There are a variety of resources on the website to support the submission process, including tips for creating a strong submission, the 2022 Proposal Scoring Rubric, a submission tutorial video on how to navigate through the proposal system, and a downloadable submission form (for reference or drafting ONLY). We encourage proposal authors to review them before submitting.

Please email [email protected] with any submission questions.

We look forward to receiving your presentation proposals, and to connecting with you online in June!
