On August 6, 2011, the USBC officially declared August as National Breastfeeding Month. Read the Proclamation.
In recognition of National Breastfeeding Month (NBM), each August the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee hosts a social media advocacy and outreach campaign inviting member organizations, breastfeeding coalitions, partner organizations, and individuals to participate in online action and conversation about the policy and practice changes needed to build a landscape of support for babies and families. It's a time where we Learn, Connect, and Act together to build momentum that sustains our movement through the coming year! |

The U.S. Breastfeeding Committee is excited to announce that the 2025 National Breastfeeding Month (NBM) theme is Forward Together. This year’s theme centers unity, solidarity, and hope, and celebrates the strength and determination of the organizations and advocates committed to advancing policy, systems, and environmental change in the First Food field and improving access to human milk.

2025 Theme: Decade of Dedication
Since 2015, our organization has advocated for meaningful policy change, initiated programs to contribute to the dismantling of barriers to evidence-based lactation support, and evolved to meet the changing needs of the communities that we support. We have nurtured the growth of a community that spans continents and commands. As part of National Breastfeeding Month, Global Military Lactation Community hosts a three-day lactation celebration for U.S. military families worldwide. This year we honor our first Decade of Dedication - a decade in which every ounce of progress in supporting the infant/child feeding needs of military communities has been fueled by purpose, persistence, and the unwavering commitment of hundreds of volunteers. Here’s to the next decade of progress. |
