ABM Position Statement on Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Subspecialty

The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) published a position statement, "Current Scope of Practice for Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Physicians and Providers: Description of an Emerging Subspecialty" in the Breastfeeding Medicine Journal. Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine is an emerging medical subspecialty that addresses the physiology, pathology, and sociodemographic components of breastfeeding and lactation. In the past 50 years, the field has grown into an international subspecialty supported by the ABM. The position statement describes the scope of the field, who practices in the field, the problems addressed, challenges faced, and explores some cases that exemplify this work.

State Momnibus Legislation Brief

The National Partnership for Women & Families issued an Issue Brief, "State Momnibus Scan: Charting the Future of Maternal Health." Momnibus legislation addresses the maternal mortality and morbidity crisis. This resource highlights the seventeen states that have either passed (partially or fully) or introduced a Momnibus in the 2025 state legislative session. Some of the common topics in these Momnibus bill packages include expanding access to doula support, workplace accommodations and economic security, expanding access to birth centers and midwifery care, and lactation support.
