The 2021 National Breastfeeding Conference & Convening (NBCC) will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021, to Friday, June- 11, 2021. The theme for this fully online conference is Ready for Anything: Rising & Thriving Breastfeeding Communities in the Face of Uncertainty.
The NBCC brings together advocates within the First Food Field, including representatives from breastfeeding coalitions, community-based organizations, national non-governmental organizations, and relevant governmental agencies. This convening is designed to develop and strengthen leadership capacity to effectively protect, promote, and support breastfeeding at the national, state, and local/community levels.
Proposal submissions should be consistent with the conference theme and align with one of the three learning arcs and the associated objectives. The submission deadline has been extended to Monday, February 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time).

Resilience: Power of CommunityThis arc highlights the sustained ability of communities to access, generate and utilize resources to confront, adapt systems, recover, and thrive in the face of adversity. Objective #1: Name two ways that increasing connectedness and fostering collaboration enhances community resilience, including the improvement of breastfeeding outcomes. Objective #2: Describe two ways small organizations have succeeded in acquiring sustainable funding and the role consistent, sustainable funding plays in reducing organizational fatigue. Objective #3: List three indicators of resilient communities and explain how these factors can shape policies to enhance breastfeeding support for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). |

Emergency Preparedness and ResponseThis arc highlights how communities and coalitions plan for, respond to, and recover from major disruptions or disasters. Objective #1: Define the role lactation service providers (LSPs) can play in ensuring Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergency (IYCFE) is incorporated into local Emergency Preparedness and Response planning and implementation. Objective #2: Describe lactation support challenges and solutions in an emergency. Objective #3: Discuss how equity issues present in Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergency (IYCFE) Response and identify at least one solution to address these issues. |

Advocacy in PracticeThis arc highlights successful mechanisms and activities, such as media campaigns and public speaking, that educate, influence and inform organizational, policy or practice changes Objective #1: Assess two or more strategies that advance equitable lactation support in Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities through local, state, or national efforts. Objective #2: Identify two ways to build community capacity to influence policy decisions. |
