2017-07-12 Workplace Breastfeeding Law Webinar
Topic: Workplace Support Constellation - Public Library
Owner: USBC Headquarters
Date: 2017-07-12
Subtopic:

Hear from an expert panel about the laws protecting breastfeeding employees and the tools that can help support them! This webinar training will bring information and implementation resources related to workplace breastfeeding law to life so that you have the tools you need to respond to questions from employers and employees.

Speakers will include:

  • U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on how Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects breastfeeding employees
  • U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division on the FLSA "Break Time for Nursing Mothers" provision
  • U.S. Breastfeeding Committee on the state laws that impact breastfeeding employees
  • Center for WorkLife Law on how to bring all of this together to support breastfeeding employees and their employers

The USBC is currently rolling out comprehensive State Guides to the Rights of Breastfeeding Employees after completing an inventory and analysis of state and federal workplace breastfeeding laws in collaboration with federal and state enforcing agencies, the Center for WorkLife Law and other legal experts, and state/territorial breastfeeding coalitions. In addition to these guides, the USBC-affiliated Workplace Support Constellation will soon develop a collaborative education campaign to increase understanding of employer responsibilities and employee rights under federal and state law.

The education campaign will likely prompt an influx of attention to workplace breastfeeding support, so this webinar training is designed to equip breastfeeding coalitions, health departments, nonprofit organizations, and others with everything they need to accurately and efficiently respond to questions and support requests.
