The application forms for both scholarships closed Friday, May 5. Awardees will be announced and all applicants notified by Friday, June 2.

Legacy Scholarship

The Drs. Ruth Lawrence & Audrey Naylor Legacy Scholarship was established in 2014 as part of the creation of the USBC Legacy Award to honor the lifelong achievement of these two leaders in the field. The scholarship is offered to two awardees each year the National Breastfeeding Coalitions Conference is held. The vision of the scholarship is to provide support to talented and dedicated individuals who are new, emerging, or aspiring breastfeeding coalition leaders.

The scholarship is open to individuals who are actively involved with a state, territorial, tribal, local, or cultural breastfeeding coalition in the United States. Preference will be given to applicants who have never attended a USBC Coalitions Conference, who are working with a coalition serving a state or community (geographic or cultural) with breastfeeding rates that are below the U.S. national rate, and for whom attendance would not be possible without this support.

Application for the scholarship must be made on the online form: apply here for the 2017 Legacy Scholarship.

Tribal/Native Trailblazer Scholarship

Thanks to the generous support of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, a limited number of scholarships are also available to support tribal/native representatives’ participation in the Seventh National Breastfeeding Coalitions Conference. The vision of the scholarship is to provide support to talented and dedicated individuals who are new, emerging, or aspiring breastfeeding leaders in tribal/native communities.

The scholarship is open to tribal/native individuals who are actively involved in collaborative efforts to support breastfeeding in tribal/native communities. Preference will be given to applicants who have never attended a USBC Coalitions Conference and for whom attendance would not be possible without this support.

Application for the scholarship must be made on the online form: apply here for the 2017 Tribal/Native Trailblazer Scholarship.

Terms & Conditions

The USBC will be under no obligation to award scholarships in any given year, and shall not be obligated to furnish reasons for its decision to award any given applicant.

A scholarship may be suspended or terminated at any time, either at the awardee's request, or if in the opinion of the USBC Awards Committee, Conference Program Committee, or Board of Directors:

  • the awardee's performance is unsatisfactory; OR
  • the awardee fails to observe the terms and conditions of the scholarship; OR
  • the awardee fails to attend the conference.

Scholarship awardees that are unable to attend the conference for which scholarship funding has been successfully awarded will notify the USBC Office in writing of this fact. In the event that a flight has already been booked at the time a scholarship is terminated or suspended, and the awardee chooses to use the value of that flight towards a future personal trip, then the awardee is required to reimburse the USBC for the value of the flight.
