Model Policy Second Edition

A second edition has been released of the Model Policy: Payer Coverage of Breastfeeding Support and Counseling Services, Pumps and Supplies, a joint publication of the United States Breastfeeding Committee and the National Breastfeeding Center. The second edition includes a revision to the definition of "approved lactation care providers" as well as a new table of the most frequent Place of Service (POS) Codes for lactation counseling services.

USBC Leader Featured in Women's eNews "Removing Barriers for Social Change" Tweet Chat

Women's eNews will host a Tweet Chat on Thursday, April 17, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at hashtag #21Leaders to discuss facing and breaking down barriers while paving the way for women's and girls' equality. The chat will feature perspectives from some of Women's eNews "21 Leaders for the 21st Century 2014," including Kimarie Bugg, founder and president of USBC member organization Reaching our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE).

Special Issue Call for Papers, from JHL

The Journal of Human Lactation invites lactation-related research, reports, reviews, commentaries, and insights into practice and policy related to the theme of Equity in Breastfeeding. The submission deadline for the special issue is August 1, 2014.

WHO Code Anniversary Campaign, from Public Citizen

This May 21 will mark the 33rd anniversary of the World Health Organization adoption of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. In honor of this important milestone, Public Citizen will engage individuals and organizations across the country to send a unified message that formula marketing in health care facilities is unethical and in violation of international standards. Public Citizen, with co-sponsoring allies, will deliver a petition signed by nearly 17,000 people to the Abbott and Mead Johnson headquarters in Chicago.

Join Praeclarus Press on May 5 from 1-2 p.m. ET for a webinar on "Understanding Inequality in Lactation Management." Kathi Barber, author of The Black Woman's Guide to Breastfeeding, will discuss culturally competent lactation management and tools for applying cultural competency in day-to-day lactation counseling.

Healthy Meeting Toolkit, from NANA

The National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity has developed a Healthy Meeting Toolkit to provide guidance for organizations that hold meetings and conferences. The toolkit addresses four topic areas: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco-free, and sustainability.

Airport Accommodations Bill, from California

California Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal has introduced AB 1787, a bill that would require California airports to provide an appropriate space for breastfeeding mothers to express breast milk while traveling.
