Workplace Accommodations Case, from Iowa

The American Civil Liberties Union has published the story of an Iowa mom who, after repeated attempts to find a space to express breast milk on her first day back to work from maternity leave, was told that the only space available was a room used by sick employees that was frequently occupied. After reaching out to her department head for help finding a location, she was advised to "just go home to be with your babies" and the department head then dictated her letter of resignation. The employee filed a case against her former employer citing sex and pregnancy-based discrimination, but a federal appeals court in the Eighth Circuit held that she should have complained to HR before trying to take her employer to court.
