National Breastfeeding Month 2015 Wrap-up
National Breastfeeding Month has come to a close, and we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who participated in this year's social media and advocacy actions. More than 1,000 contributors used the #NBM15 hashtag on Twitter with a reach of over 59 million timelines, and thanks to "shares" by our supporters, our Facebook posts reached over 261,000! Every tweet, retweet, shared resource, comment, and "like" helps us build awareness and action to support the Nation's breastfeeding families: THANK YOU! But the action does not have to end with the month of August: the NBM15 action tools are not time limited. We hope you'll continue using and promoting these tools throughout the year:

Paid Family Leave Findings Symposium, from DOL
The Department of Labor's Women's Bureau will host a Paid Family and Medical Leave Findings Symposium on Wednesday, September 9, in Washington, D.C. The event will provide advocates, policymakers, and legislators an opportunity to hear about new research findings, share lessons learned and successes, and discuss the future for paid family leave policies in the U.S.
Maternal and Child Health Care Disparities Report, from AHRQ
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has released a new section on Maternal and Child Health Care (MCHC) in the Healthy Living chartbook from the 2014 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report (QDR). The MCHC section features 12 measures, including measures of periods of uninsurance among children, prenatal care, and parent communication with providers. There are considerable state-by-state variations for measures for which data were available. The data also reveals a number of disparities among subgroups.
Map of Community-Based Initiatives, from The White House
The White House has launched a new mapping tool showcasing the Administration's community-based initiatives and grant programs focused on building community assets across issues. The open-source map displays programs from over 15 federal agencies, helping communities leverage federal funding to realize local visions. The Administration has also set up a web portal for the public to weigh in on "how you're seeing these local programs at work in your community."

Report on State Telehealth Laws/Policies, from PHI
The Public Health Institute's Center for Connected Health Policy has released the updated third edition of State Telehealth Laws and Reimbursement Policies, including an interactive map. The guide offers policymakers, health advocates, and other health care professionals the most current summary of telehealth-related policies, laws, and regulations from across the country. Highlights included that 47 state Medicaid programs and DC are now reimbursing for live video telehealth, 28 states and DC now have active laws that govern private payer telehealth reimbursement policies, and an additional 4 states have telehealth private payer laws that have passed, but are not yet in effect.
Survey of Hospital Engagement in Population Health, from AHA/PHI
The Public Health Institute and the American Hospital Association have published the results of a national survey that sought to quantify hospitals' engagement in population health efforts. Findings supported the conclusion that, in the wake of the passage of the Affordable Care Act, care delivery and payment reforms are slowly transitioning the health care system from a fee-for-service model to one that values—and only pays for—health outcomes, not just the provision of services. Highlights included that 85% of responding hospitals reported "strong" or "total" commitment to population health and 69% reported being part of a community-wide coalition, while less than 20% "strongly agreed" that their hospital had programs to address the socioeconomic determinants of health.
Family-Friendly Workplace Twitter Chat, from JWI
The Jewish Women's Institute will host a Twitter chat on family-friendly workplace policies, on Tuesday, September 8, from 1-2 p.m. ET using the hashtag #SheAchieves. The Jewish Women's Institute is launching the #SheAchieves advocacy campaign for policies that support working families and promote women's economic security. The campaign will highlight a variety of policies, including paid family leave, and pregnancy non-discrimination.
City of Dayton to Offer Paid Leave, from OH
Dayton, Ohio Mayor Nan Whaley has announced that the city will begin offering paid parental leave to its employees in an effort to attract and retain young professionals. Under the new policy, employees will have a 14-calendar-day waiting period which will require them to use sick time, vacation, or not be paid for missing work. After 14 days, the city will give employees 70% of their salaries for the next 28 calendar days. Employees can also choose to receive 100% of their pay by supplementing their checks with vacation or sick time.

The Stanford Social Innovation Review has published an article entitled, "Boarding Call for Next-Gen Leaders," discussing why so few nonprofits have millennials on their boards, the reasons for seeking them out, and how to recruit them. Millennials have diverse skills and viewpoints, can increase an organization's reach, and play a critical role in succession planning, among other benefits.
