New Guide for Establishing a Federal Nursing Mother's Program, from OPM
Released in January, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's Guide for Establishing a Federal Nursing Mother's Program details the requirements that Federal agencies must meet in support of nursing mothers, according to the Affordable Care Act. This comprehensive guide also demonstrates the benefits of breastfeeding to agencies, mothers, and their nursing infants. In the guide, agencies can find steps necessary to develop a program from the ground up and specific information on how an agency can improve and sustain an existing program. Several Federal agencies with outstanding nursing mother's programs are highlighted for benchmarking purposes.
Petition to Establish National Commission on Children, from Save the Children
Save the Children has partnered with the Children's Health Fund, Every Child Matters, First Focus, Harlem Children's Zone, and Share Our Strength to create a petition calling on the President and Congress to establish a new National Commission on Children. The USBC has signed on as an organizational Partner.
Human Milk Study, from UMass
The University of Massachusetts is seeking African American breastfeeding moms living anywhere in the country to donate a human milk sample for approved breast cancer research. For more information about this study and/or to participate, call Beth Punska at (413) 545-0813.
