Healthy
People 2010 Objectives for the Nation
Healthy People 2010 is
a national health promotion and disease prevention initiative that brings
together national, state, and local government agencies; nonprofit,
voluntary, and professional organizations, businesses, communities; and
individuals to address major public health issues. The report Healthy
People 2010, released by the Department of Health and Human Services in
January 2000, includes 28 subject areas and 467 specific objectives that
serve as a roadmap for improving the nation's health during the first
decade of the 21st century.
Objectives on
breastfeeding are in Section 16: Maternal, Infant, and Child Health, Objective
16-19 which reads: "Increase the proportion of mothers who breastfeed
their babies."
