The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Children's Nutrition Research
Center (CNRC) is the first federally funded nutrition research center in
the United States dedicated to investigating the nutritional needs of
pregnant and nursing women, and those of children from conception through
adolescence. For more than 20 years, the center’s research has helped
define the role of nutrition in children's health, growth, and development
and has contributed to nutritional guidelines used by physicians, parents,
and others responsible for the care and feeding of children.
Located in Houston, Texas, the CNRC is operated by Baylor College of
Medicine in cooperation with Texas Children's Hospital and the
Agricultural Research Service (ARS), U.S. Department of Agriculture. The
CNRC is one of six USDA/ARS human nutrition research centers in the United
States.
Nutrition and Your Child Newsletter
CNRC’s quarterly online newsletter, Nutrition and Your Child,
is written for parents, health care professionals, and educators. It was
the first recipient of the Creative Nutrition Education Award presented by
the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group of the American Dietetic
Association. Articles on breastfeeding and infant nutrition can be found
in archived issues of the newsletter at http://www.bcm.tmc.edu/cnrc/consumer/nyc/nyc.htm.
