The Division of Continuing Education in Health Sciences, UCLA Extension
Service, offers several courses to assist health practitioners in
providing optimal clinical management and support of breastfeeding
The Lactation Educator Training Program The Lactation Educator Training
Program is intended to prepare health professionals and other interested
individuals to be Lactation Educators in a variety of clinical or worksite
settings. The course provides theoretical as well as practical training in
five full days of classroom instruction, followed by 12 hours of clinical
consultation and 10 hours of community observation.
The Lactation Consultant Training Program: Advanced Training for
Licensed Health Professionals The Lactation Consultant Advanced Training
Program offers a comprehensive curriculum for those who have completed the
Lactation Educator Training Program or its equivalent. This program
consists of 72 hours of lecture/discussion and a minimum of 156 hours of
clinical practice focused on advanced techniques in managing and
supporting the breastfeeding woman and child.
Co-sponsorship Program in Lactation Training: Provides health care
institutions and health practitioners an opportunity to collaborate in
providing the Lactation Educator Training Program to local communities
across the nation.
