Since its founding as a
nonprofit association in 1960, the Lamaze mission has been to promote
normal, natural, healthy and fulfilling childbearing experiences for women
and their families through education, advocacy and reform. The work
of the organization is carried out by Lamaze members and volunteer leaders
— childbirth educators, nurses, nurse-midwives, physicians, students and
consumers — who support Lamaze childbirth and parenting.
Lamaze Breastfeeding
Support Specialist Training Program
The Lamaze Breastfeeding Support Specialist Program is a 2-day workshop
specifically designed for childbirth educators, perinatal nurses,
community-based health professionals, and consumers who are motivated to
help other women to breastfeed. The program provides education, training,
and experiences to individuals interested in supporting women and their
families in breastfeeding successfully, in spite of perceived barriers and
the complexity of their daily lives. Each participant who completes
the two-day workshop receives a comprehensive resource manual, a
certificate of completion, and a pin designating her as a Lamaze
Breastfeeding Support Specialist. This program has been approved for 18.6
continuing education hours by Lamaze International, 18 contact hours by
ICEA, 18.6L CERPs by IBLCE, and 16 category II CE hours by the CDR.
