Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre Ltd
Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre’s (BFLRC) mission is “Supporting
the People who Support Breastfeeding.” BFLRC supports physicians,
nurses, lactation consultants, and peer counselors with clinical and
professional education, resources for staff training and parent education,
and networking and referrals. BFLRC provides online articles, notice of
conferences and lectures, educational and motivational resources, and an
extensive listing of links to other breastfeeding-related sites.
BFLRC’s offers professional lactation education courses: Lactation
Management / Exam Preparation Course, a comprehensive 36-hour
course designed to prepare candidates for the International Board of
Lactation Consultants Examination (IBLCE) exam, serves as an
introduction to professional breastfeeding care, and updates and expands
lactation management skills. Practical Breastfeeding Management: An
18-hour Course for Community Health Professionals covers the
content and lessons required by of Step 2 of UNICEF’s Baby Friendly
Hospital InitiativeTM in the United States and Canada.
BFLRC’s professional resources include three textbooks by Linda J. Smith
and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers.
Comprehensive Lactation Consultant Exam Review provides a thorough
review of breastfeeding management topics parallel to the 13 content areas
of the lactation consultant examination offered by the IBLCE.
Coach’s Notebook: Games and Strategies for Lactation Education
contains games and interactivities for teaching breastfeeding and human
lactation. Each of the games has been tried, tested, and refined by the
author and other educators. For each game you'll find goals, ideal
audiences, times to play, and specific instructions to make teaching (and
learning) human lactation fun and informative.
The Lactation Consultant in Private Practice: The ABCs of Getting Started
is a user-friendly orientation and guide for those interested in running a
lactation consultant practice. Smith presents her original “ABC”
sequential format of essential skills necessary to start a successful
practice in three balanced sections: attitude, business skills, and
clinical skills.
