One of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' (ACOG) goals is to help achieve the US Public Health Service's Healthy People 2010 objective of having 75 percent of new mothers initiate breastfeeding after delivery and 50 percent breastfeeding at 6 months. Because the advice and encouragement of obstetricians and gynecologists are critical in a woman's decision to breastfeed, ACOG published an educational bulletin: Breastfeeding: Maternal and Infant Aspects, Number. 258, July 2000.

Single copies of the Educational Bulletin are available upon request by contacting the ACOG Resource Center.
